Before we knew it we had a Couture gown made and all glued together with hot glue. Yes, HOT GLUE! No-Sew on this frock!!! She tried it on looked in the mirror and said, "Mommy, I look just like a princess, I love it." We had been working on a few items for our Prop Shop PicAdilly Props and a couple of items for our floral shop Flurish Flowers Pro and most of it was still spread out on the design table AKA Dinning room table. She wanted a crown, and it was her idea to use the sticks. So we hot glued all that together with bits and pieces of moss from the yard and some silk flowers that we had been making for newborn tie-backs. Both of us were so engrossed with creating something that we spent almost two hours together designing and creating her princess spinny dress.
There's something about a vintage look that I love and I had chosen a location a few months ago and had not had any inspiration to shoot there until that very day. I knew I wanted it too has an ethereal or vintage feel to it and what we had just created was perfect. The styled session for Image Studios Group LLC was less about making our daughter look beautiful or grownup and more about allowing her to create something, to go exploring someplace new, and to give her the satisfaction to make something from with her own hands.
To her it was real, it was princess dress and a crown. It was a real castle the almost 30 minutes we were there. Her mind was telling her a story as she played it out for me and I was just there as the interpreter. She was the Woodland Queen! The butterflies were her friends, the moss on the trees, was her feathers and the old brick Tower was her Castle. She was living her own fairytale and I was lucky enough to photograph her story.
